About Us

Kangaroo Hills Organic Farm is a small mixed organic farm at Blampied near Daylesford in Victoria , Australia. The property lies at the foot of Kangaroo Hills and is a fourth generation family farm.

It is managed using sustainable farming practices and has been certified organic since 1989. The grapes used to produce our wines are hand picked from our one hectare vineyard planted in 2005.

Most of the vines on Kangaroo Hills Organic Farm were planted in 2005.

A small trial vineyard of only 250 Pinot Gris vines were planted a few years prior to this.

The main vineyard is only 1 hectare in size and contains approximately 2500 vines. This 1 hectare has 16 rows of vines, 10 rows are Pinot Gris, 3 rows are Tempranillo and 3 rows are Lagrein.

The farm is operated by Marg and Greg May with assistance at busy times from their son Tristan, his wife Meg, their daughter Andrea and her husband Drew.

Marg and Greg hope in future years that their grandchildren Archie, Ruby, Wilbur, Angus, Rosie & Elsie will also join the family in operating the farm.

Marg and Greg are also fortunate to have a number of good friends who help pick the grapes regardless of the weather conditions.

Vegan wines

All Kangaroo Hills Organic Wines are Vegan Friendly.

Winemakers occasionally wish to use a fining agent on wines that are a little rough around the edges (some wines might have excessive tannins or some astringency).

The products used for fining have proteins which attach themselves to the tannins and can be removed from the wine. Traditionally these fining agents have included things like milk based products for fining white wines and egg white for fining red wines.

With the increasing number of vegan wine drinkers, the wine industry has found new vegan friendly products that can perform this task just as well. Our wines generally don’t need any fining but in event that they do, we only use vegan friendly fining agents.
