Organic Certification

Kangaroo Hills Organic farm has been certified organic for over 35 years. For the majority of that time the certification was with NASAA – the National Association for Sustainable Agriculture but is now with Southern Cross Organics. Nothing however has changed with the same strict adherence to organic standards and principles maintained.
All of Kangaroo Hill wines are made only from grapes grown organically on the farm without the use of synthetic chemicals or pesticides. Certification with Southern Cross Organics provides assurance to the consumer that the grapes are grown organically and without outside contamination.
No synthetic chemical fertilisers are used in the vineyard and in fact the only fertiliser is from the sheep which graze among the vines during the vines dormant period.
No herbicides, insecticides or systemic fungicides are used in the vineyard either. Instead preventative spraying using natural copper and sulphur is used to control mildews.
In the winery where the wines are made, there are no chemical additives used throughout the wine making process. Physical movement and treatment of the wine is minimised and the essential natural preservative sulphur dioxide is kept to a minimum.

Vegan wines
All Kangaroo Hills Organic Wines are Vegan Friendly.
Winemakers occasionally wish to use a fining agent on wines that are a little rough around the edges (some wines might have excessive tannins or some astringency). The products used for fining have proteins which attach themselves to the tannins and can be removed from the wine. Traditionally these fining agents have included things like milk based products for fining white wines and egg white for fining red wines. With the increasing number of vegan wine drinkers, the wine industry has found new vegan friendly products that can perform this task just as well. Our wines generally don’t need any fining but in event that they do, we only use vegan friendly fining agents.
